Package delivery guidelines

The cornerstone of a thriving condominium community is courtesy and consideration for our neighbors. As residents of a condominium we do not have the same privileges as we would have living in our own house.

On-line, catalogue and television shopping are a convenience that has become a common part of our lives in the 21st Century. However, we are living in a 20th Century building with no logistical capacity to adequately manage the frequency and quantity of the packages being delivered by a wide variety of package delivery services and contractors.

Recently, many large packages have been blocking access to our mail boxes, the package closets and the mail room benches. Additionally, our package closets are not nearly large enough to handle the increased quantity of packages, resulting in difficulty finding our packages and a hazardous overflow onto the mail room and lobby floors.

In an attempt to remedy these issues, the Rules Committee encourages all residents to follow the guidelines listed below. We will be monitoring the situation in the mail rooms over the next month and are hopeful that we will not have to have to incorporate package deliveries into the SHC Rules & Regulations:

  1. Before ordering something that will be delivered by USPS, UPS, FedEx, or Amazon, check that the package will reasonably fit in the package closets without blocking access to the shelves.
Please make a good faith effort to determine the size of your package. If it will not fit in the package closet, then follow Section 3.2 of SHC Rule & Regulations regarding deliveries.
  1. If you have internet access, track the delivery of your package on the carrier’s website (usps.com, ups.com, fedex.com, amazon.com, et.al.) and make every effort to retrieve it the day it arrives.
If you do not have internet access, check the package closet/mail room regularly after placing an order.
  1. Please do not order items for delivery if you know you will not be here to retrieve them.
  1. Have a “Package Buddy” – someone you trust to retrieve your package and deliver to your door when you are not able to or hold the package until you return. Volunteers from our Social Committee will be glad to assist in this regard. Feel free to contact our current Chair, Maddy Sheff, to make arrangements.

Thank you for your cooperation.

Your input and feedback are always most welcomed and encouraged. Please feel free to contact us. We are listed in the July Newsletter posted by the mail rooms.
